In-Office Ultrasound
East Village Medical Center offers in-office ultrasound services for both obstetric and gynecological purposes. Having ultrasound capabilities in our office means you can receive imaging and results during the same visit, without needing to schedule at a separate facility.
Obstetric Ultrasounds
During pregnancy, ultrasounds are used to monitor your baby's development and assess your pregnancy health. Common obstetric ultrasounds include:
- Dating ultrasound: Confirms pregnancy and estimates gestational age (typically 7-8 weeks)
- Nuchal translucency scan: First trimester screening for chromosomal abnormalities (11-14 weeks)
- Anatomy scan: Detailed evaluation of baby's organs, growth, and development (18-22 weeks)
- Growth scans: Monitoring baby's growth in the third trimester
- Biophysical profile: Assessment of baby's well-being in late pregnancy
Gynecological Ultrasounds
Ultrasound imaging is also an important diagnostic tool for non-pregnancy related conditions. We use gynecological ultrasound to evaluate:
- Uterine fibroids
- Ovarian cysts
- Abnormal bleeding
- Pelvic pain
- Endometrial thickness
- IUD placement verification
- Ovarian reserve assessment (antral follicle count)
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a full bladder for my ultrasound?
For early pregnancy and some pelvic ultrasounds, a full bladder can improve image quality. Your provider or our front desk will let you know if you need to arrive with a full bladder based on the type of ultrasound ordered.
Will I find out the sex of my baby?
If your baby cooperates, the sex can often be determined at the anatomy scan around 18-22 weeks. Let your sonographer know if you'd like to find out or if you prefer to keep it a surprise!
Are ultrasounds safe?
Yes, ultrasound imaging uses sound waves (not radiation) and is considered very safe for both mother and baby. It has been used in obstetric care for decades with an excellent safety record.
